Walked into the local Home Despot today to help Wil pick out an air conditioner for his room. His 8000 BTU unit recently kicked the bucket, and with the heat index reaching one-hundred-thousand degrees these days, we went off to get him a new unit.
First of all, we found two 8000 BTU models from LG. One was available on skids priced at $169. The second unit was off to the side by their normal shelving racks, and had no price. We noticed that model was a bit better-featured, with moving louvres and a remote control, and when we asked the price, no one knew it. They finally found someone to look it up, the result? $169.
Better features, same price. Sold.
On the way out I passed the ice-cream vending machine and I decided it was time for a snack. Unfortunately, after getting Wil a Chipwich, I only had a $1 bill and a $5 bill. Fudge pops = $1.50, the machine doesn't take $5 bills, so I walked back inside to one of the registers, which is when I got this exchange.
Me: (Putting a $5 bill down on the counter) "Can you make change for me while your register is open?"
Teller: "Sure." (Opens register.) "How much do you need?"
Me: (Blinks. Blinks again. Stares at him. Resists desire to ask for 10 singles.) "I need all of it."
